I’m writing this story because our English teacher had the brilliant idea to get us involved
in this interesting project, which consists in reflecting on our language learning, so we are
interviewing another student to compare different experiences. We had to ask a friend of ours or
a classmate that attends our school in order to collect information about his or her language
learning.
This is the story of Karol I personally decided
to interview a girl from the first grade. Karol attends the first year in Scientific course. She
told me her story and her experience, which now I’m going to share with you.
Karol first of all told me that she has been studying English since she was six years old,
and she enjoyed studying it from the first moment so Karol decided to attend a course in
order to improve her English. She loves speaking English because she is really good at
with pronunciation and she has no problems understanding it.
Even if she attends the Scientific Programme, it’s unbelievable how she
is trying to study German without following any lessons. She told me that she really enjoys
speaking French and she always wanted to learn another language apart from these ones.
I asked her about how she tries to know more about the language itself and the
culture associated.
She communicated that she is used to writing the words down and then to repeat
them out loud so as to remember the vocabulary better. She believes that when you have
to learn a language both vocabulary and grammar are equally important.
Karol prefers learning English when she is at school because she can hear the
pronunciation and if she doesn’t understand something she can ask. But she also does
something to improve her English when she’s not a school. For example in her free time
she listens to music and she looks for the lyrics of the song in order to learn the words she
doesn’t understand or she reads a lot of sites in English, sites about her favourites tv
series and her favourite singers.
Karol told me that when she learns a language, she prefers listening to it so she can
pronounce in a wonderful way. She added that when she has to speak in a foreign
language Karol prefers to write it, she has more time to think about how to structure
structure sentences and she doesn’t have to be worried y about the pronunciation.
Although of course Karol has to be careful to write the words correctly.
Furthermore, she told me that if people want to learn the language they have to travel
around in the country where this language is spoken. Although it could be really difficult at
the start due to the fact that maybe not everybody understands or they can put into
practice what they have learned. She personally had some issues when she travelled to
London, but then she learned how to socializehow socialize with others without even care
if what she was saying was correct or not.
She had another experience: she has an English friend, and once he called her. At the
beginning she had trouble understanding him but then she started to talk with him
more loosely. They talked about everything, about their favourite books, their
favourite movies and so on.
