David attends the fifth year of Applied Sciences and he told me that he has been studying English since he was 6 years old and that to improve his language skills he started to watch a lot of movies or TV series, In the past he used to watch them with subtitles but now he understands without them. He even told me that he plays a lot of video games in which he speaks english with other people because many of the players are foreigners and the simplest language that almost everyone speaks is English, with them he usually talks about the game but sometimes the conversation goes further.
He practised the language when he used to travel during summer holidays in a foreign country to ask for information about the trip and he said that he used to understand better native speaker because the pronunciation is more precise, he told me that If he doesn’t know how to communicate his thoughts, he tries to rephrase them to make people understand the general meaning he wants to express.
He thinks that the most challenging skill to improve is speaking, because while he speaks he has less time to think about what he has to say, rather than when he writes or reads. At the end he told me that he had some advice for those who are now starting to study English in his opinion students should not focus much on vocabulary but rather on the syntax of the sentence, which for him is the most difficult part to learn.
He was very happy after the interview because he said that it was like a challenge for himself, to see how well he understood an entire conversation In English.
